About this activity

Strasbourg's Notre-Dame Cathedral, with its 142-metre spire that was the world's tallest building for over two centuries, is a Gothic masterpiece. But the slow experience isn't about rushing up to the viewpoint. It's about sitting in the central nave, looking up, and being hypnotised by light passing through 12th and 13th-century stained glass. These rose windows tell biblical stories with chromatic richness no photograph can capture. In the early morning, light enters from the east creating colour columns that slowly move across the stone floor. The 32-metre nave creates extraordinary acoustics. The true slow treasure is the side chapels, the Angels' Pillar, and the feeling of connection with eight centuries of history.
