About this activity
The Murazzi del Po are one of Turin's best-kept secrets for travellers but an absolute classic for locals. This long strip of stone embankments along the River Po is where locals come to breathe, walk, run and, above all, contemplate one of Italy's most beautiful sunsets.
Built in the 19th century as flood defences, the Murazzi became the epicentre of Turin's nightlife in the 80s and 90s. Today they enjoy a calmer second youth. At sunset, golden light bathes the neoclassical facade of Gran Madre di Dio church across the river. The area is flanked by Parco del Valentino to the south and Piazza Vittorio Veneto — Europe's largest square — to the north. In summer, historic venues reopen as outdoor pop-ups with DJ sets, open-air cinema and design markets.
