### A 4,000-Year Journey to Ancient Egypt

The Egyptian Museum of Turin is the world's oldest museum dedicated to Egyptian civilization and houses the second largest collection of Egyptian artifacts after the Cairo Museum.

### Tour of the Main Galleries

The visit begins in the **Gallery of Kings**, where a procession of monumental statues of pharaohs, sphinxes, and deities transports you directly to the Nile Valley. The room dedicated to the **tomb of Kha and Merit** displays the most complete funerary outfit ever found outside Egypt: furniture, jewelry, mummified food, and even musical instruments intact after 3,400 years.

The **Temple of Ellesiya**, donated by Egypt to Italy in 1970, is one of the few Nubian rock temples displayed outside their country of origin. Children are fascinated by the mummy room, where the mummification process is explained in an engaging, educational way.

### Tips for Families

- Free admission for children under 5, discounted rates up to age 14 - Children's audioguide available (recommended from age 6 onwards) - The guided tour "Piccoli Egittologi" (Saturdays and Sundays) includes a hieroglyphic writing workshop - Cafeteria with children's menu on the ground floor - Best time to visit: early morning (less crowded)

About this activity

The Museo Egizio in Turin is the world's most important Egyptian antiquities museum after Cairo, with over 40,000 pieces spanning 4,000 years. Founded in 1824, it was the first museum dedicated exclusively to Egyptian civilization.

Highlights include the Gallery of Kings with colossal pharaoh statues, the Turin Papyrus (oldest known geological map), the Royal Canon listing ancient kings, and the Tomb of Kha and Merit with intact funerary goods. The Temple of Ellesiya, donated by Egypt in 1966, fills an entire room.

The 2015 renovation added interactive screens, immersive projections and touchable replicas. Children's audio guides narrate pharaoh stories as exciting adventures. Weekend family workshops teach hieroglyphic writing. Adults 18 EUR, children (6-14) 1 EUR, under 6 free. Open daily, allow 2-3 hours.
