### History and architecture
Commissioned by Christine of France and designed by Amedeo di Castellamonte, the palace was enriched over centuries by Italy's finest artists including Filippo Juvarra and Claudio Beaumont. Juvarra's Scissors Staircase is a baroque engineering masterpiece.
### What to see
Over 30 State Rooms display frescoes, gilded stucco, Flemish tapestries and original furniture. The Royal Armoury holds over 5,000 pieces. The Royal Gardens, designed by André Le Nôtre of Versailles fame, provide a perfect rest stop.
